Topamax (Topiramine) is a new antiepileptic drug, which belongs to the class of sulfamate-substituted monosaccharide.
Topamax is prescribed for treatment:
- epilepsy in adults and children older than 2 years (including patients with newly diagnosed epilepsy) – used as monotherapy;
– partial or generalized tonic-clonic seizures in adults and children older than 2 years ( in combination with other anticonvulsant drugs);
- attacks on the background of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome;
- prevention of migraine attacks in adults.
