Doxycycline – a semisynthetic tetracycline antibiotic which has a broad spectrum of action. It is able to penetrate into cells and tissues to influence the micro-organisms which are intracellular (e.g., chlamydia).
Doxycycline is used for the following diseases:
* respiratory tract infection (an inflammation of the pharynx, bronchi, and lungs) and in otolaryngology (ear infections, tonsillitis, sinusitis);
* genitourinary infections caused by chlamydia and ureoplazma;
* chlamydia conjunctivitis;
* venereal diseases – gonorrhea, syphilis and chancroid;
* especially dangerous infections – plague, cholera, tularemia;
* trachoma;
* brucellosis.
